What are paper-oil insulated HV voltage transformers used for?Their primary purpose is to step down voltage in a given line and isolate measuring instruments, meters, or relays from the high-voltage power circuit. Structurally, transformers can accommodate multiple voltage windings, and their insulators housing can be made of porcelain or silicone.Our product line includes two main types of Arteche transformers: inductive and capacitive voltage transformers. They are ideal for installation at measurement points due to their very high accuracy class.

What exactly is the role of a voltage transformer? First and foremost, it steps down voltage in the power line to safe levels. It works similarly to current transformers, except that instead of current, it transforms the voltage signal from the primary circuit.
In practice, voltage transformers enable precise voltage measurement while isolating measuring devices and relays from power circuits. This allows for safe operation of instruments, protecting equipment from overloads and surges.
The high accuracy of voltage transformers is particularly important in networks where even a small phase angle error could affect measurement results and the operation of automation systems.
Each voltage transformer consists of a primary winding and a secondary winding wound on a common magnetic core. The primary winding is connected to the power network, and the secondary winding is used to connect meters, relays, or control devices.
During operation, the voltage in the secondary winding remains proportional to the voltage in the primary winding, enabling accurate measurement and analysis of network status. The transformer design minimizes phase angle error and ensures a constant accuracy class—in the case of Arteche solutions, as high as 0.1%. Such high precision is particularly important in applications requiring reliability and power supply stability.
